Energy Work Basics

Energy work is an ancient healing modality that utilizes and maximizes the universal life force energy that is inherent of all life. This perfect life force energy, also sometimes refered to as Chi, comes from the source of all creation (whatever you may perceive that to be) and is focused with intention by a practitioner to a recipient. One perspective indicates that there is no "good" or "bad" energy, that there is only blocked or stagnant energy. Energy work is often used to channel the universal energy with the intent to release blocks and stagnant areas within the recipient's system. Once blockages are removed, the energy is free to flow to every part of the system and healing can begin.

Seichim and Reiki are two similar methods of utilizing the same universal energy available to all of us. Although exact origins are debated, in general, Seichim is thought to have originated from Egypt and Reiki from  Japan. The techniques and symbols used in practice are slightly different, but very similar. Seichim is said to pre-date Reiki in its origination and practice. Many practitioners are initiated into either one or both and may use variations or combinations of each technique as they develop their own practice.

Once a practitioner is initiated as a channel for the energy, the practitioner only has to have the intent to use the energy in order for it to flow through the practitioner to the intended focus. The recipient only has to be willing to receive. The more open a recipient is to the energy and the transformations that may occur, the more they will benefit from the energy work.

The practitioner will start by initiating the intent to channel the energy to the recipient. This may include the use of various sacred symbols associated with invoking and empowering the energy. There are approximately 12 hand positions that the practitioner will use to focus energy directly to the recipient. Each hand position is located to best work around the main chakra centers to aid the energy in working through any blocked energy centers (chakras) and to balance the entire system with the intent to restore harmony. Each practitioner may be guided by their own intuition and experience in using variations of the basic hand positions and techniques. You should feel free to let the practitioner know if you are or become uncomfortable with any of the hand positions or techniques at any time. The more comfortable the recipient, the more you will be open to the work and energy.

The energy being channeled is perfect and always works for your highest good. It can “do no harm”. It is the same energy that flows through all of life and is divinely intelligent. It comes directly from the source of all life and all creation; whatever you may perceive that to be. The energy knows exactly what you need and when. If you are ready for a noticeable transition, change, or growth in your life, the energy will work perfectly in sync with your highest good to promote that. The energy will never open you up to a change or experience that you are not ready for. It works perfectly with the degree of the experience that you are ready for. This is different for everyone. The energy may more appropriately work on a very subtle level with some people and a more obvious level with others. Even on the most subtle levels, you can be confident that you are receiving exactly what it is that you need at the time.

What might I experience during and after an energy work session?
Everyone is different. Some people experience no obvious sensations during the session while others experience various sensations from a deep state of relaxation to subtle heat, cold, vibrations, visions, messages, or can simply feel the energy move through their system. Whether you experience a sensation or not, be confident that the energy is working perfectly for your highest good.

The energy can bring on a detoxification effect and the recipient could experience effects
after a session while toxins expel from the system and old energy blocks are released. These effects vary widely and can include mood changes, emotional changes, physical detoxing, etc. If you do experience any of these things, it is likely an indication that you are releasing old blockages and that your system is attempting to do so in order to restore balance and harmony. However, if you ever become concerned about your emotional or physical health, please consult your medical doctor immediately. The energy can “do no harm”, so any health concerns would be an indication that something else is occurring that you would need to consult with your medical doctor about.
 

We are all equipped with our own intuition. Every one has it, but not every one trusts it or practices using it to their maximum benefit. For most people, the same intuition that brought you to your first session will guide you to future work as well. The more energy work you do, the more likely you are to become increasingly in touch with your own intuitive nature. Everyone is different, but you will know when you are ready for your next session.
